Christmas Colouring Competition Winner

Carlisle coffee roaster John Watt & Son has picked the winner of its Christmas colouring competition for adults run in partnership with the Cumberland News.
Owners Peter and Carol Johnston ranked Susanna Rawes’ effort as the top entry. Susanna, who lives in Cumwhinton, has now scooped a year’s supply of coffee as a reward for her artistic endeavours.
“Just like last year the standard of entries was high making it a tricky task to pick a winner,” said Carol Johnston.
“What we found special about Susanna’s piece was that it was well produced and you could tell plenty of thought, time and effort had gone into it. In fact we liked it so much we now have her entry on display in our Blackfriars Street branch.”
Susanna, like many of the John Watt’s Coffee Club subscribers, will receive a monthly coffee delivery in the post and get to sample great-tasting coffees from different parts of the world throughout the year.
She also won a unique roasting experience trying out John Watt & Son’s new state-of-the-art roasting machine at the Blackfriars Street branch and had a one-to-one session with their experienced roaster Jen Pollard.
“I really enjoyed learning about roasting coffee, and it was interesting to find out lots of facts about coffee production from Jen,” said Susanna.
“I can’t give you just a couple of words as it wouldn’t do justice to what was a wonderful prize! It was also a real treat to sample the coffee I watched Jen roast.”
There are now JW Unique Experiences available to book that gives individuals or groups the chance to roast coffee, have a go at creating their own blends and learn all about the coffee-making process from bean to cup.
