February’s Coffee of the Month – Rwandan Sake (Women’s Coffee Alliance)
Ms. Marie Laetitia Kayitesire, Managing Director of Sake Farm, planted the first coffee trees on her plantation in 1999 and today its 30 hectares are planted with Arabica Bourbon variety trees.
This amazing coffee is produced in co-ordination with the Rwanda Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA Rwanda Chapter is an NGO that got its legal entity in 2013 through Rwanda Governance Board). RWCA companies support women cooperatives in coffee production with socio-economic projects e.g.medical insurance, cows, scholarships for their children and finding them better prices for their coffee produce.
Sake coffee is a fully washed coffee that has been processed in Sake coffee washing station since 2003. Local women run and manage it which gives them a lot more control over prices and costs.
These medium roasted beans produce a full bodied, well rounded cup with notes of sweet black cherry.
