Our Kenya AA Iyego Gatubu Cooperative AA Dark Roast is a smooth bodied coffee, that has been roasted darker than our Kenya AA Medium to produce a full bodied coffee, which has been a popular choice for our customers for over a 100 years.
Kenya is well known for its coffee cooperatives that work through a highly organised network. This system allows consistency throughout the growing method, milling and sale of the coffee. The topography of high-altitude plateaus in the major Kenyan coffee regions combined with acidic soil provides excellent growing conditions for Arabica beans. The Kenyan Iyego Gatubu Cooperative produces 285 tons of coffee per annum from about 813 hectares of coffee plants. These plantations are wholly owned by the farmers and the main crop is harvested in October to December each year which lands in the UK in May.
All Kenyan coffee is graded primarily by screen size (a measure of the size of the bean, larger being higher grade) immediately after milling; it then proceeds to the weekly auction at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange.
The AA Grade is the top grade based on screening. Our range of Kenya AA coffees exemplifies a much sought-after combination of flavours.
