This coffee is produced by members of the Women Coffee Extension cooperative (WCE), in Southern Rwanda near the border with Burundi.
The aim of the Rwanda Ngoma Coop, is to improve the livelihoods of low-income (mainly women) farmers, helping to rebuild this war-ravaged country.
The coffee is hand sorted, and then fully washed at a central washing station, owned by the co-operative. They have currently approximately 140 member farmers.
As the whole area is at high altitude and the beans are carefully washed and processed, a very consistent, mildly acidic coffee is produced.
