Carlisle coffee roasters John Watt & Son are supporting military veterans with a special new blend.
From 11 October the Bank Street-based business is selling a coffee in aid of The Royal British Legion.
The medium to light roast ‘Veterans Blend’ will be available for one month only and 10 per cent of all sales of the brand are being donated to the Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal.
Peter Johnston, Director at John Watt & Son, said: “The business has served the families of military personnel during its 150 year history – through the Boer War, two world wars and more recent conflicts like the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Our service men and women have given, and continue to give, so much for their country and we owe every single one of them a great debt of gratitude. The Royal British Legion is a fantastic organisation and one we’re delighted to support.”
With its fruity, chocolate flavour and well-rounded medium body the ‘Veterans Blend’ is sure to hit the spot with coffee lovers and will be on sale at John Watt & Son’s new Blackfriar Street branch as well as at the original shop on Bank Street.
Helping the 2017 Poppy Appeal is especially relevant for the business as Mr Johnston’s uncle who served in the Royal Navy died this year.
“My uncle left Penrith in 1946 to join the Navy as a Boy Seaman and he rose through the ranks retiring as a Lieutenant Commander having been awarded an OBE for services to the Royal Navy,” said Mr Johnston.
“As well as helping ex-service men and women across the country our ‘Veterans Blend’ is a nice way for me and my family to remember him.”
